Business Profile

Business
website owners are
forever on the look out for free publicity for their online businesses.
The
good news is that contributing to online forums can be a great way to
publicize
your business, provided you respect the rules of the forum
administrators. If
you go about this in the right way, it can yield several benefits for
your
business.
So
let's look at marketing
on forums in more detail.
An
Internet forum is an
interactive site on which users can post comments about various topics.
Anyone
who joins a forum website can read and respond to the contents that are
posted
on the forum "threads".
As
forum participants read
and respond to comments, the topic thread keeps on growing and can end
up being
several pages long. Anyone can start a new conversation by clicking a
"New
Topic" button. No matter what area of business you are in, there are
certain to be lots of forums that are dedicated to your niche market.
Finding a
suitable forum is simply a matter of searching Google or one of the
other
search engines.
So
what is the best method
of marketing on forums?
Once
you have found a
suitable forum to join, don't forget that you are entering someone
else's
territory - so tread carefully. Someone has set up the forum
and will not
want to see newcomers posting spam. Most forum administrators
act swiftly
against spam. If you insist on posting an advert and not a contribution
to the
conversation, the post will probably be removed and the administrator
might
even ban you from the forum.
The
correct method to link
back to your website from forum posts is to utilize the signature file
through
the "User Control Panel" inside the forum. A signature file
needs to be nothing more than a link back to your website with a few
words
about what it is that you offer.
Most
forums allow you to
post an avatar which is a small image that will appear every time you
submit a
comment. It is a good idea to use an actual photo of yourself to show
that
you're a friendly and approachable sort of
person. Remember, being
active on the forum is all about building up your personal reputation,
so it
would also be sensible to use your real name as well as a photo of
yourself so
as to encourage people to see you as a trustworthy person who
they could
do business with.
Now,
you are all set to
post your first comment. There is usually a thread where new members
can post
introductory greetings and be welcomed by established members of the
forum.
That is a good place to start. Simply posting a few comments about
where you
come from, what your business is, and what you hope to add to the forum
will be
enough. Again, avoid posting links back to your website in your
comments, simply
let your signature file do the work.
Although you
may have
much to contribute, it is not a good idea to shoot your bolt too early.
First
of all, you need to become an accepted part of the forum community and
get a
feel for the place. Asking pertinent questions about topics of interest
to the
forum members is a good way to start, and posting polite responses to
existing
thread topics is a good way to get “your feet wet”.
After
a while, you'll have
built up some familiarity with other posters on the forum so you can
initiate
some threads of your own. Consider what other forum members wish to
know about
and think about how you can help them to find the information they are
looking
for.
Your
signature file will
appear at the foot of every message that you post, so
the more you
post, the more you will be directing members back to your site. And the
more
good quality messages that you post, the more people will be
curious to
learn more about you. As you can see, if you want to participate in
marketing
on forums, the best way to do that is to participate
fully and
generously in the life of the forum.
I
wish you the best of success,
