Tips
On Making And Keeping Your New Year Goals

What
is it about New Year goals that causes so many people to make and
promptly break them? Have you made any resolutions for this year? If
so, what can you do to ensure that you are one of the minority of
people who actually see them through to completion?
The
first thing to get right is the way you make your New Year goals. Keep
your list short - very short and very focused. A list of just one or
two resolutions is NOT too short and it will be much easier to focus
your whole attention on achieving them. Choose only those resolutions
that are challenging and that you will feel a burning desire to
achieve. Cut out anything you feel luke-warm about, or anything that
does not present you with a challenge.
How
do you know whether your New Year goals are challenging enough? One
clue is whether or not your resolution will involve any kind of
sacrifice. Take some time to think about what you would be willing to
relinquish so as to reach your goal.
How
do you know whether you feel passionate enough about achieving your
resolution? If you are not willing to make the sacrifices necessary to
achieve the New Year’s resolution, that might be because deep
down you lack the burning desire to see it through.
Once
you have your key New Year goals in place, make them as specific as
possible and set measurable targets. Set a time frame for achieving
your goal and divide your progress into a series of short-term targets
to help you stay on track. Adding short term goals is a good way to
keep up your motivation and momentum.
Write
down your targets and your time frame. At the same time, allocate
yourself a series of rewards for each target that you achieve and make
a note of them.
Do
not hide your light under a bushel! Don’t be secretive about
your resolutions. Share them with your friends and family so as to put
some gentle outside pressure on yourself to succeed.
Make
sure your plans are flexible enough so that if you suffer a setback, as
you probably will, you will be able to reschedule things more easily.
However,
you need to turn your New Year goals into a habit as quickly as
possible, so set a cracking pace in the first few days to get into the
swing of your new schedule and then it will be much easier to keep
going throughout the year.
I wish you the best
of success,
